Sara Kenney is a writer, producer, director with 25+ years experience in TV, animation, games and comics. Sara runs Wowbagger Productions an incubator org training up the next generation of producers. The company brings together artists and scientists to collaborate on engagement around the biggest science, environment and health challenges we face today.

Mairéad Ruane

Producer

Mairéad Ruane is a values-driven creative producer, director and facilitator working with a diverse range of lived experiences. She gravitates towards creative projects that bridge arts and health and recently completed a masters in Creative Health (MASc) at UCL. Mairéad has directed and produced short films for charities including Environment Agency, NHS Charities Together, Rethink Mental Illness, OCD Action, The Willow Collective (funded by Arts Council Wales) and TAPE Community Film, amongst others.

Michael Mensah-Bonsu

Digital Producer

Michael Mensah-Bonsu is a multi-disciplinary creative who designs, directs, and delivers visual stories across just about every medium, for audiences and industries of all kinds. He now works independently, mixing new tech with old-school craft to create visuals that are equal parts beautiful, smart, and innovative

Warren Pleece

Artist

Warren Pleece has been drawing comics since the late 1980s, working on many titles for DC Vertigo, Dark Horse Comics and 2000AD and for book publishers including Jonathan Cape, MacMillan and Simon and Shuster. His most recent work includes the 2024 version of Life Sucks, written by Jessica Abel and Gabe Soria, published by Fantagraphics and his own The Sunny Luna Travelling Oracle, published by Berger Books/ Dark Horse Comics.

Karen Berger

Karen Berger is an award-winning editor and founder of Vertigo, the renowned, influential and groundbreaking imprint of DC Comics, a division of Warner Bros. In 2017 Karen launched her creator-owned imprint Berger Books at Dark Horse Comics.

Sofie Dodgson

Colourist

Sofie Dodgson brings a bold and dynamic approach to storytelling through colour, enhancing narratives with vibrant, impactful palettes. Their first major work – Bitter Root – went on to win two Eisner awards. Sofie has worked with artists, writers, editors and letterers for publishing houses including Image, Boom, Titan, and Off Register Press.

Richard Bruning

Letterer & Design

Richard Bruning is a graphic designer and cartoonist. He worked for over 20 years at DC Comics. He currently works as Art Director and Lead Designer at Berger Books, part of Dark Horse Comics.

Vanessa Carter

AMR Narrative, Patient Involvement Co-producer

Vanessa Carter became an AMR patient advocate in 2013 after surviving a serious car accident and 10-year facial reconstruction that caused a highly-resistant MRSA infection on her face. Vanessa is currently Chair of the WHO Task Force of AMR Survivors. Vanessa was also the founder and currently serves as an Executive Director for [www.theamrnarrative.org] The AMR Narrative.

Rob Purdie

Lived Experience Expert

Rob Purdie is a husband and father who was diagnosed with Cocci Meningitis in 2012, the most severe type of Valley Fever. Rob relies on daily antifungals to control his disease and has used his experience to help other patients and become a leading fungal disease patient advocate. In 2023 Rob founded MyCARE, the first patient led, pan fungal nonprofit.

Rob is also a member of the WHO Task Force of AMR Survivors.

Bhakti Chavan

Lived Experience Expert

Bhakti Chavan, is an XDR-TB survivor and AMR advocate from India. Her background is in biotechnology, which helps her bring both scientific understanding and personal experience to her work. After going through two challenging years of treatment for drug-resistant TB, she realized how important it is to make AMR responses more people-centred and evidence-based.

Sarah Hyder Iqbal

Engagement Strategist

Sarah Hyder Iqbal is an engagement practitioner, researcher and trainer who works to  connect science and society and make them matter to each other. With experience spanning health research, science communication, public engagement, funding, strategy, and evaluation, she collaborates with institutions, funders, policymakers, creatives, media, scientists, and communities to break silos and make science inclusive, accessible and actionable.

Sara Kenney

Sara Kenney is a Writer/ Producer/ Director based in London, England. She started her career working in science, but left a good job with great career prospects to work in TV. For the last 16-years she’s worked as a filmmaker on documentaries, drama and animation (BBC, Channel 4, Discovery).

John Watkiss

Artist

John is an artist who has worked in both comics and film. He began his career in London as a portrait painter and illustrator and then also taught anatomy and fine art at the Royal College of Art. Watkiss has worked for Derek Jarman, Saatchi & Saatchi, Ridley Scott Associates, Francis Ford Coppola, DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox, and Disney. In comics Watkiss’ work includes: Sandman, Conan, Deadman and Ring of Roses.

Karen Berger is an award-winning editor and founder of Vertigo, the renowned, influential and groundbreaking imprint of DC Comics, a division of Warner Bros. Karen led Vertigo for 20 years, publishing over 300 properties and many acclaimed and best-selling comics and graphic novels including: Sandman, V for Vendetta, Preacher, Swamp Thing, Fables, Hellblazer, Y–the Last Man and 100 Bullets. Surgeon X is the first comic series she’s edited since becoming a happy and devil-may-care freelancer.

James Devlin

Colourist

Glasgow based James Devlin has worked on various titles including Testament and Supergirl. Along with Surgeon X, he is currently drawing and colouring the grindhouse horror action-thriller Vietnam Zombie Holocaust.

Jared K Fletcher

Lettering

After graduating from the Kubert School Jared K. Fletcher began working at DC Comics as part of their new in-house lettering department. A few years later, he left to pursue his freelance career as the proprietor of Studio Fantabulous.

Duncan Copp

Producer

Duncan has worked as a freelance producer-director for almost 20 years. His recent films include Secrets of the Sun, Doomsday Volcanoes and Neil Armstrong: First Man on the Moon.

Richard Bruning

Graphic Designer

Richard Bruning has spent a lifetime in the comics business, both as a creator and as DC Comics’ Creative Director. As a graphic designer, he created the logo for the Vertigo comics imprint. An award-winning graphic designer, he’s created scores of logos, including the Vertigo comics imprint logo.

Michael Mensah-Bonsu is the Managing Director of Vuniiun a London based content delivery company. Vuniiun is dedicated to utilising new and existing platforms to develop and deploy multiple forms of content in unique and original ways.

Simon Armstrong is the Founder and Creative Director of ticktockrobot. His core specialties are in concept design and development, as well as animation and art direction. He has written, produced and directed an eclectic scope of projects on a diverse number of subjects, ranging in complexity and audience type.

Dr Emma Sutton

Medical Humanities Producer & Historian. Queen Mary University of London

Dr Emma Sutton worked as a documentary film maker at the BBC for ten years, before completing a Wellcome Trust-funded MA and PhD in the history of medicine. She is a post-doctoral researcher and Co-ordinator for Public Engagement at the Centre for the History of the Emotions, Queen Mary University of London.

Oliver Kenney

Oliver Kenney works as a music consultant for c-burn, creating playlists for brands such as Soho House, Paul Smith & MEATliquor. He’s also composed original music for the short film Angels & Ghosts, Surgeon X as well as creating Spotify playlists for many of the characters.

Marnie Chesterton

Marnie Chesterton is a audio producer from London. She has worked on radio projects about science, the environment, health, design and food for BBC, RNW and NPR. She has made several programmes about the antibiotics crisis for the BBC.
